Minor Change In Status

So I obviously don't have a Shasta 1400 but rather a Shasta 16SC.  Thanks to the folks at http://vintageshasta.proboards.com/index.cgi for being so kind as to help me out with this identification.

Happy Birthday

I finally found her VIN after exposing myself to what was probably a lifetime of lead dust.  If anyone has any leads on her DOB that would be great.

Rain Coat

So here in Southeast Georgia rain in the summer is gonna happen.  We'd had several weeks of dry and unfortunately we weren't what you'd call weather-tight.  So off to Lowe's to get Sharona (I've named her) a rain coat.

The Walls Go Back aka Please Don't Rain

So now that the curb side and back wall is completely removed we start to rebuild the walls.  The curbside wall came off in a single piece and was laid on the drive for use as a pattern.  My neighbors have been especially forgiving of this FEMA looking project and if you are reading we WILL have this tarped mess renovated shortly.

The curbside floor near the wall's edge was somewhat dry rotted and so we replaced it on both sides of the wheel well.

I think the clamp manufacturers should pay us for this photo.  I think the amount of clamping here is indicative of crappy glue or the builder is trying to overcompensate for something.

Most of the curbside wall was built from the "pattern" that the old wall provided.

There was a chance of rain so we pulled the walls into the garage.
 More curb side wall building.

Finally the walls go back on!

Even the back wall looks sweet.

A bit more reinforcement went into the rebuild vs. the original design.

Take It All Off

So at this point I guess I should mention that my husband has a 99% of his degree completed in Industrial Technology Education which means he would have been a shop teacher.  This has never proven to be so useful as it has at this point and time.

Tearing out the inside and back went so well that we progressed right on to the curb side.

A warning....the following images may be disturbing to some viewers.  Especially those who are currently involved in a renovation or potentially considering a renovation.  Proceed at your own risk!!!

I have to admit, once you get those pesky walls out of the way the whole camper really opens up.

I have friends and family that have been following along on my facebook page that after this photo just didn't have the heart to post any more positive comments.

Getting Rid of the Guts

Once we had her safely parked it was time to take out the unnecessary insides.  Myra our 9 year old was in charge of taking down wallpaper.  I didn't have the heart to tell her that we would be pulling the entire piece of plywood off so she painstakingly tore off each little piece of paper.

The first major mold/water damage find was in the rear of the trailer (street side)

Here are some other "before" pictures of the inside before the demo.

Obviously this Shasta 1400 of unknown year was equipped with a potty and shower

Sorry folks we trashed the stereo so there's no need to email me and ask if I can ship it to you ;-)

My husband refers to this photo in the series as the "beginning of hell"

Fresh water tank storage area.  We will be camping with running water so this was demo'd

Previous owners installed carpet with nails, staples, screws, and other various fasteners.  Apparently this helped hold the trailer together for the ride home.

At this point my husband thought we might only have to rebuild just this wall.

Curtain Material

I picked up this material from JoAnn Fabric for the curtains on the windows.

I am planning on a simple curtain with a taped edge at the bottom similar to the photo below.  I am using red, turquoise, black, and a creamy yellow for my colors so I think my taped edge at the bottom of the curtains will be red.

The Day It All Started June 5, 2011

We picked her up from a Craigslist ad.  She was listed for $1000 we took her home for $400.  She made it about halfway there and we replaced her curbside tire.
